Raising Awareness for Cats Protection Via Piano Improvisation

I share my piano improvisation recordings here as a journey in raw, musical self-expression, and I invite you to listen to these snapshots of my internal world; the technical notes are extras for those who wish to explore the music theory further. I also use this creative space to support Cats Protection.

Ruth Pheasant's rescue cats on her piano

My cats don’t much like my piano playing. Everyone’s a critic. 🐾

I hope you enjoy these improvisation videos I pulled out of the archives (see below). I share my unedited piano improvisation recordings here on my blog 4 times a week. These are older ones I recorded a while back. As usual, raw, uncut snapshots of my internal musical world, for the purposes of sharing my passion for music.

After more than a year of regularly publishing my recorded improvisations, I decided to also use this creative space to support Cats Protection — the charity where I adopted my own critics.

If these performances, or any of my others, brought a moment of joy to you today, please consider reading more about this project below, sharing my blog with someone who likes music and/or cats, or making a small, voluntary donation directly to Cats Protection via my JustGiving Page. Please never feel any obligation to give — your time, ears, and shares are support enough! ❤️

About this Charity Project

Thank you so much for visiting my blog.

As a professional piano teacher, my blog is a space where I share raw, unedited musical improvisations four times a week. Music often holds up a mirror to our inner worlds, offering a moment of quiet reflection, peace, and emotional connection in a busy world.

As I have been regularly recording my daily improvisations and publishing 4 times a week for a while now, with no plans to stop, I thought I would use this creative journey to shine a light on a cause very close to my heart: Cats Protection. My own beloved cats are rescues from this wonderful charity, and I get to see the joy they bring to my life every single day. These recordings are completely free to listen to, but if one brought you a moment of peace or joy, please consider donating to Cats Protection via my JustGiving page, or spreading the word.

How your donation helps:

Cats Protection works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome thousands of cats and kittens across the UK every year. By donating the price of a coffee, a music sheet, or whatever you can comfortably spare, you are directly helping them provide medical care, shelter, and love to cats waiting for their forever homes.

How it works:

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast, and totally secure. Your details are safe, and the money you donate goes 100% directly to Cats Protection automatically. I handle absolutely none of the funds myself, so you can give with total peace of mind.

If a recent improvisation brought a little comfort or joy to your day, please consider supporting these wonderful rescue kitties in return.

Thank you so much for listening, and for your kindness. 🎹🐾

We are the voice of cats in society and we speak up for their protection.

We’re working towards a society where every cat is treated with kindness and respect.

Making a better life for cats, because life is better with cats.

My regular piano improvisation recordings are automatically scheduled and published here on my blog every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Each recording is a raw, unedited exploration of musical self-expression. Music often holds up a mirror to our inner worlds; what emotions or imagery arise for you as you listen?

🐾 Music for a Cause: These recordings are free to listen to. I also use this creative space to support Cats Protection, the charity where I adopted my own lovely cats. If my music brought a moment of joy to you, and if you are able, please consider making a small, voluntary donation directly to them via my JustGiving Page, or you can just share this blog post with someone who might like the music. What a beautiful way to share your musical world, Ruth! 🎹 Music is a language of the heart, and improvisation makes it even more special because every note carries a little piece of the artist’s soul. I love how you have combined your passion for piano with your compassion for cats through your support for Cats Protection.

lol 🙂 we must all keep introducing cats to beautiful music to prove there’s something more to life than just laying in the sun’s warmth!

Oh absolutely. But sometimes I wonder if they’ve got the right idea when it comes to their favourite pastime ☀️😸

exactly! they’ve taught us the pleasant feeling of laying in the sun, you’re returning the favor with your wonderful playing 🙂

A quick weekend update for anyone listening in: I’ve added a bit more information above on how this project directly supports the Cats Protection charity through JustGiving. Thank you all so much for the lovely comments both on my blog and in private, and for all your support so far!
