Copyright and Use of Content
All original content on this website — including recordings, compositions, performances, videos, text, and images — is protected by copyright © Ruth Pheasant, 2015 onwards. All rights are reserved unless otherwise stated.
You are welcome to view, share, and link to my content for personal and non-commercial purposes. However, you may not copy, reproduce, adapt, distribute, or create derivative works from my content without prior written permission.
In particular, no content from this website may be republished, uploaded, or redistributed on other platforms without my explicit consent.
Terms and conditions for students and parents/guardians of students
Lessons in my home
Parents or guardians of young children are most welcome to sit in on the first few lessons. However I cannot accommodate more than two visitors per session due to the terms of my home insurance, so please ensure it is just you and your child who turns up for the booked session. Parents/guardians are also welcome to drop their child off for the lesson, and then return to collect their child promptly at the end of the booked time.
Fees and payments
Should you decide to hire me for my services as a piano teacher or music teacher, by having music lessons (for yourself or someone else you have booked the lessons for, such as a child) you agree to pay the specified fee for all lessons carried out by me and booked by you.
I understand that sometimes important things come up that are unavoidable and I aim to rearrange cancelled lessons whenever possible, so I do not charge for cancellations if I have been given reasonable notice. However, as a courtesy I do ask that if I have turned up to the lesson and then it is cancelled, that the fee is still paid so that I am not left out of pocket due to my travel expenses and lost time. You agree to give at least a few hours notice for a cancellation where possible. You will be notified of the fee before committing to the lessons.
Payments must be on or before the day of the lesson.
For lessons paid for in advance there is no refund if you decide to discontinue lessons before all the booked lessons have been done. However your payment will be carried over if your discontinuation of lessons is only temporary and plenty of notice has been given, e.g. if you are going away for a couple of weeks and need to stop lessons just for those two weeks.
I require at least two weeks notice for termination of regular weekly lessons. A pre-agreed ad hoc arrangement can be terminated at any time.
Conduct
Discourtesy, rudeness and abuse towards me or members of my household will not be tolerated, and I reserve the right to terminate lessons with immediate effect in such situations. In such situations where I have chosen to terminate lessons I will refund any advance payment for sessions that have not yet been carried out.
Time keeping
Please try and arrive at your booked time and not more than five/ten minutes early as this may impact the student who is having a lesson before you. I may have a student with me in the lesson slot before yours, or I may be teaching over Skype/FaceTime in which case I will be unable to answer the door until the video call is finished.
Lesson length for late arrivals will be at my discretion. I may not be able to give you the full lesson length if there is another student booked for the slot after yours, and you are very late.
The terms of service may be revised at any time without notice. It is your responsibility to ensure you are up to date with the terms and conditions by checking them regularly. By using this service you are agreeing to be bound by the then current version of these terms of service

I am obliged by professional ethics to set my rates to reflect my qualifications, skills and experience as well as to cover my travel expenses and travel time when doing home visits. Charging unrealistically low rates undermines my professionalism and that of colleagues, potentially bringing the whole music teaching profession into disrepute.
