Eric Satie was a French composer who lived from 1866 to 1925. He composed six Gnossiennes altogether, between 1889 and 1897. This is his third Gnossienne, and I have also recorded Gnossiennes No. 1 and 2.
The haunting melody of Gnossienne number 3 is underlined by harmonies that move away from the Classical and Romantic influence of earlier music, creating a more mysterious atmosphere, and a less structured sound. This is compounded by the flexibilty of the rhythm due to the lack of time signature and bar lines.
I recorded this piece in October 2017.
