Impromptu No.3 in G Flat Major was written by Franz Schubert in 1827, right at the cusp of the transition from the Classical era of music, to the Romantic era, although Schubert is generally considered to be a Romantic composer. Schubert wrote eight Impromptus for piano altogether, as well as many other piano works.
This beautiful composition consists of a lyrical, tender melody in the treble part which sings out above gently bubbling broken chordal accompaniments and occasional passionate, emphatic statements in the bass.
This has always been one of my favourite pieces of piano music to play, and I hope you have enjoyed listening to it as much as I have enjoyed playing it. I recorded this in June 2016.
